Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering 2022, Volume 16, Issue 4,   Pages 533-549 doi: 10.1007/s11709-022-0802-8

Abstract: The present study uses the finite element method for simulating the crustal deformation due to the dislocation of a segment of the North-Tehran fault located in the Karaj metropolis region. In this regard, a geological map of Karaj that includes the fault segment is utilized in order to create the geometry of finite element model. First, finite element analysis of homogeneous counterpart of the fault’s domain with two different sections was performed, and the results were compared to those of Okada’s analytical solutions. The fault was modeled with the existing heterogeneity of the domain having been considered. The influences of both uniform and non-uniform slip distributions were investigated. Furthermore, three levels of simplification for geometric creation of geological layers’ boundaries were defined in order to evaluate the effects of the geometric complexity of the geological layering on the displacement responses obtained with the finite element simulations. In addition to the assessment of slip distribution, layering complexity and heterogeneity, the results demonstrate both the capability and usefulness of the proposed models in the dislocation analysis for the Karaj segment of North-Tehran fault.

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2008, Volume 2, Issue 2,   Pages 186-190 doi: 10.1007/s11705-008-0035-y

Abstract: catalysts (SZ) doped with Ni or Sn (Ni/SZ, Sn/SZ) were prepared for catalytic visbreaking of heavy petroleumThe visbreaking reactions were carried out at 240°C and 3–4 MPa for 24 h using a heavy petroleum oilThe effect of water content on viscosity of heavy petroleum oil was also investigated. Both catalysts can promote thermolysis of heavy petroleum oil and the viscosity was reduced from 0.319The presence of water was disadvantageous to visbreaking of heavy petroleum oil.

Development and challenges of planning and scheduling for petroleum and petrochemical production

Fupei LI, Minglei YANG, Wenli DU, Xin DAI

Frontiers of Engineering Management 2020, Volume 7, Issue 3,   Pages 373-383 doi: 10.1007/s42524-020-0123-3

Abstract: Production planning and scheduling are becoming the core of production management, which support the decision of a petrochemical company. The optimization of production planning and scheduling is attempted by every refinery because it gains additional profit and stabilizes the daily production. The optimization problem considered in industry and academic research is of different levels of realism and complexity, thus increasing the gap. Operation research with mathematical programming is a conventional approach used to address the planning and scheduling problem. Additionally, modeling the processes, objectives, and constraints and developing the optimization algorithms are significant for industry and research. This paper introduces the perspective of production planning and scheduling from the development viewpoint.

Multiple input self-organizing-map ResNet model for optimization of petroleum refinery conversion units

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2023, Volume 17, Issue 6,   Pages 759-771 doi: 10.1007/s11705-022-2269-5

Abstract: This work introduces a deep-learning network, i.e., multi-input self-organizing-map ResNet (MISR), for modeling refining units comprised of two reactors and a separation train. The model is comprised of self-organizing-map and the neural network parts. The self-organizing-map part maps the input data into multiple two-dimensional planes and sends them to the neural network part. In the neural network part, residual blocks enhance the convergence and accuracy, ensuring that the structure will not be overfitted easily. Development of the MISR model of hydrocracking unit also benefits from the utilization of prior knowledge of the importance of the input variables for predicting properties of the products. The results show that the proposed MISR structure predicts more accurately the product yields and properties than the previously introduced self-organizing-map convolutional neural network model, thus leading to more accurate optimization of the hydrocracker operation. Moreover, the MISR model has smoother error convergence than the previous model. Optimal operating conditions have been determined via multi-round-particle-swarm and differential evolution algorithms. Numerical experiments show that the MISR model is suitable for modeling nonlinear conversion units which are often encountered in refining and petrochemical plants.

Abstract:

Geological prospecting data into three-dimensional system and various three-dimensional modeling methods were used to reason and connect the formation of stratum automatically to generate three-dimensional model of formation. The modeling methods can easily liberate geological workers in the field of water conservancy and hydropower from the heavy geological information access and geological interpretation of the manual labor, thus enhance the speed of three-dimensional stratum modeling and also the quality of construction.
